Lets face it, there is no denying the fact that if you own a dog then at some time in your life or his, you are going to have to clean up a few accidents on the floor. Hopefully, it is just off the floor and not on a carpet or on the corner of a piece of furniture because that is the absolute worst to clean up. When dealing with hardwood, however, the urine needs to be cleaned up off the floor as quickly as humanly possible. If you leave the urine to stand for even just the shortest amount of time then what is going to happen is the urine is going to soak into the floor and damage the wood. The best thing to do is clean it as soon as you see it, in fact, make it a habit to walk around the house every hour or so to make sure that you have not missed anything. Especially when your dog is a puppy.
Cleaning up the mess is straight forward but you have to make sure that you do a very thorough job because if the dog can still smell the urine after you have cleaned it then whats going to happen is he or she will wee in the same spot over and over again until you either clean it properly to remove as much scent as you possibly can or until your furry friend learns to pee outside.
1 – Start by putting on a pair of gloves. Use some paper towels to soak up all the mess. Get as much off as possible.
2 – Once you have done your utmost best to remove all the pee, go ahead and sprinkle some baking soda over the area. You are going to want to let the baking soda sit on the area for the whole night until the next day.
3 – Clean off the baking soda within a vacuum the next day.
4 – Clean the area with a solution of 1 part vinegar and 1 part water. Remember, dont leave any liquid sitting on your hardwood floor so clean it off after a few seconds. Rather repeat the process as much as needed instead of letting it sit.
5 – Clean the area one more time with a microfiber mop. Microfiber is going to clean much more effectively than anything else. Do that a couple of times as well, then you are done.
